With the semi finals set in both Moscow and Luxembourg, there's a distinctly different line up when comparing the two events. Moscow has seen 3 of its top 4 seeds reach the semis, compared to 0 in Luxembourg!
(Rank/Seed)
Moscow
9/1 Sam Stosur progressed comfortably through the quarter finals against Zakopalova 61 63, having trailed a point for 1-4 in the 2nd set. This was a sharp contrast to her 2 hour plus 2nd round win over Cornet 76(6) 75. This is her 1st Kremlin Cup semi.
11/3 Wozniacki ousted the defending champion (14/5) Cibulkova 62 67(1) 61, the Slovak failing to win a game after her medical time out for a foot injury at 1-2 in the 3rd.
12/4 Ivanovic beat her compatriot, qualifier Dolonc 64 61.
Arvidsson continued her strong indoor form with a 63 63 win over a jaded (16/7) Kirilenko. As the last Russian standing, this proved a disappointing for all involved, including the sparse pre-weekend crowds in the vast Olympic Stadium.
Luxembourg
V. Williams continued her winning ways, edging (15/1) Vinci 76(2) 64 in the quarter finals
Niculescu seems to have revived her form, taking out Linz finalist (19/2) Goerges in the 2nd round
